Hyundai Ioniq Electric

Hyundai IONIQ Car Insurance

Launched in 2016, the Hyundai Ioniq was the world’s first car planned from the start to offer three electrified powertrains – hybrid, plug-in hybrid and full electric. Prices started from £28,995 for the Premium specification Ioniq Electric with specific equipment including Automatic Windscreen Wipers with Rain Sensor, 16” alloy wheels, LED headlamps / rear combination lamps and Advanced Smart Cruise Control. Integrated satellite navigation was standard across the Ioniq Electric range.

The Ioniq Electric Premium SE, available from £30,795, offered leather seats with heated/ventilated front and heated rear seats, heated leather steering wheel and a driver power seat with Integrated Memory System. Safety features included Blind Spot Detection and front Parking Sensors whilst stylistically the vehicle had EV specific 16” alloy wheels.

All first generation Ioniq Electrics featured standard rapid charge compatibility, ensuring an 80% charge capability in just 33 minutes from a 50kW CCS Combo Rapid public charger, whilst a standard ICCB Charging Cable allowed charging from a domestic 3 pin supply. The original Ioniq Electric also features adjustable regenerative braking, via steering column mounted paddles, maximising driver engagement and enhancing efficiency.

The vehicle was offered in six different exterior colours; Polar White, Phantom Black, Platinum Silver, Marina Blue, Phoenix Orange and, exclusively for the Ioniq Electric, Blazing Yellow.

2019 saw Hyundai launch a comprehensive set of connectivity and design enhancements for its Ioniq Electric.

The latest version of the Ioniq features SmartSense active safety and driving assistance systems and state-of-the-art infotainment features. In addition, both the exterior and interior design received updates, while drivers of the new Ioniq Electric also enjoy 36% added energy capacity thanks to an upgraded 38.3-kWh battery. We’ll go into these changes in more detail below.

Internally, as well as the new convenience features, customers can choose from four leather seat colours in the new vehicle. There is a 10.25-inch AVN screen and the Ioniq Electric’s standard high-resolution 7-inch LCD console display has been improved with mood lighting.

The exterior also gets design upgrades with a new distinctive pattern on the closed grille. All models feature an updated front bumper design, daytime running light bezels, redesigned 16-inch alloy wheels and an expanded range of paint choices.

The Ioniq Electric’s safety package includes Front Collision Warning and Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection with new Cyclist Detection ability and Driver Attention Warning. Lane Keeping Assist and High Beam Assist also come standard.

The 2019 Ioniq Electric also features Eco+, which supplements the standard Eco, Comfort and Sport driving modes. By selecting the Eco+ mode, drivers reduce their energy consumption and the car’s remaining energy can be extended during unforeseeable emergency situations.
